Beings : Love All (2)

Wi: How to love all beings equally?
Yi: Before you can achieve that, you have to rid greed, hatred and ignorance.
Wi: That would mean I have to be enlightened.
Yi: Technically, yes.
Wi: I don’t get it… Why all these talk of loving all if we, the unenlightened can’t do it anyway?
Yi: The idea is to cultivate love till we can. We can start on a smaller scale like loving our family and friends. Or on an even smaller scale, love your life partner unconditionally.
Wi: If we can love one unconditionally, that would mean we have the potential to love many unconditionally.
Yi: Yes and no…. Yes, there is potential, just like we all have potential to become Buddhas. No, because we are still unenlightened. Unless we realise emptiness, we tend to see things with dualistic biasness. Each of us has many different sets of affinities with others. Some are good; some are bad. We should cultivate the the bad to be good and the good to be better. In the meantime, just do what we can rather than putting the whole burden of Samsara on our shoulders at once!
Wi: You got a point!
