Tit: Look! Two guys checking into a hotel…
Tat: So?
Tit: Tongues might wag!
Tat: Actually, tongues might wag for other cases too.
Tit: Such as?
Tat: When two girls check in?
Tit: Hmmm… I see what you mean.
Tat: And when a guy and a girl check in?
Tit: Agree…
Tat: Even when a single person stands outside a hotel!
Tit: What is the moral of this all?
Tat: Tongues MIGHT wag – for any reason, reasonable or not!
This is an old saying, O Atula, this is not only of today:
‘They blame him who sits silent,
they blame him who speaks much,
they also blame him who says little;
there is no one on Earth who is not blamed.’
[Even the blameless Buddha was blamed by those who misunderstood him!]There never was,
there never will be,
nor is there now,
a (wo)man who is always blamed,
or a (wo) man who is always praised.But he whom those who discriminate praise continually day after day,
as without blemish, wise, rich in knowledge and virtue,
who would dare to blame him,
like a coin made of gold from the Gambu river?

‘Brahman’ (last word in the Dhammapada quote above) should be a wrong translation, because ‘Brahman’ refers the absolute reality believed by Brahmins – which is different from that the Buddha taught.
I search the net and found two alternative translations for that word in the verse – ‘Brahma’ (one of the higher gods, e.g. Maha Brahma) and ‘Brahmas’ (many of the higher gods). (The Buddha is ‘Teacher of Humans and Gods’, hence praised by gods.
