Super Short Story (213): Clarity
The guilty guy can’t plead insanity because he would lose his reputation for his professionalism at work, though he was already charged with abusing work authority. So, he pretended to be suffering from erratic fits of stress, to be on the brink of going mad, when his defense weakens, looking vulnerable and hurt.
However, he could only do it so many times before the cyclical act of being stable and unstable becomes obviously at his convenience for asking for postponements of trial when ‘needed’, for revising his defense. There was enough clarity of mind to look like there wasn’t enough clarity of mind? At least, that was the verdict from many onlookers and the judge. (This is loosely inspired by a true incident.)
