Watching ‘Insidious 1 & 2’, I tried to figure out who are what are really the insidious ones. The malevolent ghosts who haunt and possess are of course the usual suspects. However, there is more than that. It’s all too easy to demonise beings out there, when what makes anyone demonic are their inner demons of greed, hatred and delusion.
While we might see very evil spirits to be the very emodiment of these three poisons, the truth is, they too, like us, are victims of them – to a greater extent. Just as our three poisons are what really inflict us with suffering, their poisons inflict them till they create much suffering for others.
A possessed human is not really demonic. Even the possessing demon is not really demonic. The truly demonic are the inner demons possessing the minds of both affected humans and demons.
