Irrationalisation

A short story with fictitious names… Tom claimed that Dick’s published thoughts were misunderstood by Harry, rationalising them by making excuses for him. However, Harry remains unconvinced. Why? First, if Dick didn’t mean what was published, why were they clearly published as so for all to see? Second, if Dick sincerely meant as Tom rationalised, Dick should simply republish clearly for all to see. Formally published words are needed to explain formally published words.
