A genie appeared to three in a boat and granted each of them a wish.
A: I want to go to a place where I will always have enough to spend.
The genie said okay and sent him to Moneyland.
B: I want to go to a palace made of gold with all my needs attended to.
The genie said okay and sent him to Goldland.
C: All my friends are gone. And I’m lonely. Can I ask them back?
The genie said okay and all three were in the boat again.
Back to square one,
the world is the way it is
because of the way we are.
If everyone’s samsaric wishes were granted instantly,
Samsara will become a super-Samsara!
Hellish!
If everyone practised the Dharma,
they would have it as the wish-fulfilling jewel,
and have only good wishes for all,
and Samsara will become a super-Pureland!
If all wishes came true, whose wish will take precedence? Rather if all wishes came true, no wish will come true simply becos someone’s else wish may overwrite another. In the end, the wishes that came true as a result of practice are the true wishes of hard work that is well deserved and well meaning.
